Ashamed Of The Gospel?

Where was Paul? Paul was in Rome. Who was in charge in Rome at the time Paul was there? Caesar Nero was in charge. This guy wasn’t just your everyday ruler, this man hated Christians with all his being. He is the ruler that dressed Christians in lamb skins and fed them to the wolves. He dipped Christians in wax  and used them as human candles, and asked them how does it feel to be the light of the world. Caesar Nero was a bad man!

But Paul had a job to do, as all Christians have a job to do. That’s to spread the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In verse 1:16 Paul says this,
Rom 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
He says this because he was getting ready to lay it on the line. Again remember where Paul is; find the darkest, hooker, drug, gang infested place you can imagine and times that by two and you might have an idea of what it was like in Rome. Not a pretty place.

In the next few verses Paul lets them know that they have no excuse and they can’t play ignorant saying they had no idea what they were doing was wrong.

And then he calls it like it was;
(Rom 1:22)  Professing to be wise, they became fools,

(Rom 1:23)  and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

(Rom 1:24)  Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,

(Rom 1:25)  who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

(Rom 1:26)  For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.

(Rom 1:27)  Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

(Rom 1:28)  And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

(Rom 1:29)  being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,

(Rom 1:30)  backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

(Rom 1:31)  undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;

(Rom 1:32)  who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

Now do you think Paul new that maybe there was a chance that he was going to loose his head over this? You bet he knew! So why would he do it? Because Jesus Christ lives and Paul knew that for a fact! You say what’s your proof Sam? My proof is faith in the fact that the 11 disciples were, well this is how Courson puts it;
Do you really believe that eleven disciples who were crucified upside down, had their brains beaten out with clubs, were speared in the back, were placed in boiling oil would not only experience persecution themselves, but would stand by while their wives and children were tortured—all for a lie? If you believe that, you have much more faith than I could ever have.
That’s my proof. These guys were with Jesus if Jesus never rose from the dead and spoke to them, do you really think they would die and watch their families die for the lie?
My point is this; read carefully what Paul wrote here; now read the last verse. If you saw my post on facebook about Christians associations with people that go against the Lord you’ll now get what I was saying. Look at the last verse
Rom 1:32  who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

They approve of those who practice them. Paul puts us in the same boat! And to everyone that’s going to say “oh so they deserve to die”, no, this is a spiritual death, deserving of Gods punishment.

I pray that everyone would just consider the fact that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is real; and if it’s real then what Paul says here is real! Read it! Study it! Like Paul says

(Rom 1:18)  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

(Rom 1:19)  because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.

We know the truth, we need to live whats right. Don’t just go along with the crowd. There is no time to worry about feeling at this stage in the race. Stand up for the Gospel of Christ! This is the real deal people, souls are at stake here…Who know’s it might even be your soul?
