Love Running Cold?

Is your love running cold?

Jesus says in Mat_24:12 “And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.”

Take the word “lawlessness” out and replace it with wickedness and that should bring us right up to date. I’m not just changing the word to fit into today’s world. The Greek word used for “lawlessness” is;

(an-om-ee’-ah) witch means (illegality, that is, violation of law or (generally) wickedness: – iniquity, X transgress (-ion of) the law, unrighteousness.

We are certainly living is some evil, wicked, and lawless times. So what is the answer? Do we run for the hills and hide? Do we go out and kill and destroy? Both answers sound good to me! But I believe the Lord has a better answer for us. The answer is given to us in Php_4:4-8

Lets notice that Jesus says the “love of many will grow cold” we need to stop us from being one of the many that love, but become cold because of all the wickedness. Php_4:4-5 gets us started.

(Php_4:4)
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

(Php_4:5)
Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

Ok so we can Rejoice while we’re hiding in the hills and some my argue that you can rejoice while you kill and destroy evil, but how do you “Let your gentleness be known to all men”? I can assure you that you can’t in either situation!

Paul goes on to tell us what it is we need to be doing;

(Php_4:6)
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

(Php_4:7)
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

We should be anxious for nothing. I believe Paul is saying take your time, think about it, pray about it, let it be known to God and when you do that you will have the peace from God that surpasses all understanding.

Then he gives us one more thing that is sure to help us not become one of the “many that will grow cold”.

Php_4:8  Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

I think that just about covers it! In other words, lets not focus our efforts on everything that is going wrong, lets meditate on everything that is going right. That way we can Rejoice Always, Let our gentleness be known to all men, be anxious for nothing and have peace with God.

There is always going to be wickedness and evil; don’t be one of the many, don’t let Your Love Grow Cold.
